Tony Oakley announces his retirement
Tony Oakley has informed us of his retirement as a practitioner and also as a notary public. This will take place on 30 June.
Our team will attest to the guidance that Tony has given to all of us, built from his many years in practice.
I have known Tony for many years. He and my father John Hicks formed Hicks & Oakley which formally came about in 1983, at Blackburn Road, Syndal. They had worked together for some years prior to that. His calm manner, detailed knowledge of business structures and commercial law, together with his dry wit, have been obvious to us all. Those of us who have witnessed Tony in action in chairing meetings will be aware of his expertise. He has been an accredited specialist in business law (more recently this is known as "commercial law") for many years. Tony is proud to recount that at one stage all the solicitors at Hicks & Oakley had accreditation in various fields.
Tony has also practised as a notary public for many years. We anticipate having Vincent Caruso to keep the art going and to explain its nuances to us!
He has been instrumental in integrating other small practices into HOCW over the years.
Tony has a great deal of experience and prowess as a rower. When he would in the past quietly mention that he had been "paddling" a bit, that often meant regular 5am starts and some seriously intense training leading up to various international Masters' rowing regattas around the world.
On behalf of the principals, we thank Tony for his contribution to the formation and subsequent development of Hicks & Oakley, Hicks Oakley Chessell Williams and wish him all the best in his retirement. I would also like to thank Tony's wife Liz. Not all of you will be aware, but Liz worked as our business manager for many years. We hope that Tony and Liz will continue to visit the office when able to do so where they will always be most welcome.
