Kelly Owens


Kelly practices in wills, estates and succession law assisting clients and families with all aspects of their estate planning and structuring. From superannuation to complex wills and testamentary trusts, Kelly will advise you on the best strategy to protect your assets in your situation.  She also has a particular interest in testators family maintenance claims, grants of international wills, informal will applications, disputes and probate challenges so can inform you of any challenges you might face if your estate planning is not conducted properly.

With a background (both internationally and locally) in family law, commercial litigation, civil litigation and property, Kelly draws on her experience across multiple practice areas to provide holistic advice to her clients in their succession planning. Understanding the overlap estates law has with family law and property and understanding asset ownership enables Kelly to give her clients of all ages, genders and backgrounds tailored, comprehensive advice.

Kelly began her legal journey in 2006 first studying a Bachelor of Law (Hons) in the UK, before bridging her degree with further study at Deakin University, Australia and later being admitted to the Supreme Court of Victoria.

She enjoys being involved in legal operations and finding technical solutions to problems using IT and Microsoft's Artificial Intelligence. Kelly is proficient across many Office 365 applications and all online court systems.

Kelly's experience includes:

  • Wills (both simple and complex, including those containing testamentary discretionary trust provisions and special disability trust provisions)
  • Binding death benefit nominations
  • Enduring powers of attorney (personal and/or financial) and appointments of medical treatment decision makers
  • Deceased estates and estate administration; grants of probate and letters of administration, grants with international wills annexed, limited grant applications
  • Will disputes; probate caveats and grounds of objection, part IV claims, deeds of family arrangements and will construction issues

About Kelly

Kelly is English so has a strong Liverpool accent (despite moving here in 2014). She loves travelling, Thai food and makes costumes for stage shows in her spare time to unwind after a stressful day in the office.
